In sims 4, your sims can now gain weight from simply not exercising. before, it was just overeating. but now exercise is necessary to stay fit. and for the wife, i'd just tell you to be more patient, and i'd recommend going to the gym and using the workout equipment there instead of jogging. i find it makes sims lose weight faster..
